Yalova University Concrete Canoe Club achieved a significant success by participating for the first time in the concrete canoe competition held annually at Istanbul Technical University Ayazağa Campus.
During an approximately one-year meticulous working process, students developed their own designs and personally produced the canoe mold. Subsequently, a special concrete mix that is lightweight, durable, and highly resistant to water permeability was developed after numerous trials. Following a one-day casting process, the curing phase was completed, and the canoe was finalized through sanding and painting.
It should be particularly emphasized that this achievement was not solely the result of individual student efforts, but was also made possible through the guidance, technical contributions, and continuous support of their academic advisors.
Before the competition, the team conducted training sessions at the northern coast of our university. On May 2–3, they competed in the event held at the ITU pond, participating in jury evaluation, presentation, booth exhibition, sinking, slalom, and speed races.
At the end of all stages, Yalova University ranked second after Sakarya University in the overall scoring, achieving a remarkable success in its first participation.
