Students from the Faculty of Engineering at Yalova University have achieved a significant national success with their innovative projects that integrate technology and agriculture.
At the grand finale of the Agricultural Technologies Ideathon, organized in collaboration with the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Capsule Technology Platform and the Mevlana Development Agency (MEVKA), the TARAGAY-BIO team, representing our faculty, was awarded the First Prize worth 75,000 TRY.
🌱 An Innovative Approach Bridging Space and Agriculture
The project was developed by Musa Seyidoğlu (4th-year student, Department of Mechanical Engineering) and Nisa Nur Keklik (2nd-year student, Department of Industrial Engineering), under the mentorship of our graduate Ahmet Kırık, founder of Filizhane Indoor Farm.
The project, titled “Seed Development and Biotechnological Test Bioreactor in a Microgravity Environment,” operates based on the Random Positioning Machine (RPM) principle, enabling the simulation of microgravity conditions in a laboratory setting.
This system enables:
• Investigation of plant physiological responses under microgravity conditions,
• Experimental studies without the need for costly space missions,
• Generation of critical data for space agriculture and sustainable food production.
🤝 Strong Output Through Interdisciplinary Collaboration
This project, which combines the engineering design and prototyping capabilities of TARAGAY SPACE with the agricultural expertise of Filizhane Indoor Farm, stands out as one of the pioneering initiatives in Türkiye contributing to the National Technology Initiative vision.
🎯
This achievement represents a concrete outcome of interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative thinking, and effective mentorship.
As the Faculty of Engineering, we proudly congratulate our students and graduate and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.
