Students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Yalova University — Ameer KHAN, Sümeyra KARAKOÇ, Enes GÜNGÖR, Şebnem Ekin DOĞAN, and Emir Can YAZICI — have won an award in the Communication Category at the 3rd “Accessible and Connected Türkiye 2053” Interuniversity R&D Idea Competition, organized by the UDHAM Presidency under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye.
Their project, titled “Balloon-Based Communication System,” aims to ensure the continuity of critical communication infrastructure during disasters by using solar-powered balloons equipped with mini base stations to provide uninterrupted connectivity between rescue teams, healthcare professionals, and disaster victims.
This achievement reflects both our university’s research and innovation capacity in engineering and our country’s forward-looking vision in disaster management and communication technologies.
