YEFMUN 2026: Model United Nations Excitement at the Faculty of Engineering

Yalova University Faculty of Engineering hosted the YEFMUN (Yalova University Engineering Model United Nations) conference for the first time on April 11–12, 2026, welcoming 270 participants, the majority of whom were high school students.

The opening speech of the conference was delivered by
Prof. Dr. Jülide Hızal Yücesoy.
The event turned into a strong institutional gathering with the participation of
Prof. Dr. Serdar Geri,
Hüseyin Yılmaz,
Hamza Bayrak,
Mustafa Acar,
and Yasin Gök.

The conference, realized with the sponsorship support of Yalova Organized Industrial Zone and Beşiktaş Shipyard, brought together academia, industry, and the education world under the same roof.

During the conference, which was conducted in English as the official language, four different committee sessions were organized. The SOCHUM committee addressed the ethical standards and technical responsibility dimensions of artificial intelligence, while the UNEP committee focused on carbon capture and sustainable energy systems in industrial facilities. In the special committee representing the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), water infrastructure sharing between technology-owning countries and resource-rich countries was discussed. In the Crisis Committee, participants simulated real-time pandemic management and strategic decision-making processes based on a COVID-19 scenario.

In addition to students coming from seven different high schools in Yalova — Yalova High School, Şehit Osman Altınkuyu Anatolian High School, Yalova Birey Anatolian High School, Çiftlikköy Mustafa Kemal Anatolian High School, Halil İnalcık Anatolian High School, Yalova TED College, and Yalova Social Sciences High School — participants from different universities also took part in the event; English teachers from the schools supported their students.

YEFMUN, for which the Faculty of Engineering provided venue and organizational support, is a concrete reflection of our university’s social responsibility and educational vision towards high school students. This successful event, in which
Atahan Kurtoğlu served as the Secretary-General, provided young participants with a valuable experience in diplomacy, critical thinking, and international cooperation.
